Helmenthiasis

Helmenthiasis and Amoebiasis is an infestation or a disease caused by the parasite Entamoeba histolytica in the intestines of children and adults. It is a condition characterized by intense cramping or colicky pain, which may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting.

Causes

Amoebias usually occurs by consumption of contaminated water or food that contains the cysts of Entamoeba. Most often it spreads by house flies, insects and cockroaches.

Consequences

The infection may lead to weight loss and malnourished children. There is pain in lower abdomen especially on passing loose or watery bowel motion. If infection period is long it can involve liver and other body organs also leading to a condition called as amoebic abscess. It may also cause Intestinal damage or scarring which restrict the normal absorption of nutrients.

Food Regime

Do’s:

Light soups, cooked vegetables, carrots, citrus fruits.

Don’ts:

Avoid solids because they cause cramps, raw vegetables, fatty foods such as butter, cream, oils, sweets.
